Arriving in Macau
Very few international visitors arrive in Macau by air. The Macau airport is mainly used for domestic travel. Visitors to Macau generally arrive by ferries, jetcats and turbo-foils from Hong Kong. Depending on the mode of travel, a journey could take anywhere from 50 to 95 minutes. The boats operate from 7am to 7:30pm daily, and depart from the Macau Ferry Pier next to the Shun Tak centre at 200 Connaught road in Hong Kong. Some visitors to Macau also take a helicopter from Hong Kong International Airport, and the journey takes no more than 20 minutes.
How to get around in Macau
The public bus system is easy to use in Macau. Services are frequent and efficient, and run from 6:45am to midnight every day. All the cream and black taxis that traverse the streets are metered. Fares are inexpensive but be prepared to pay extra for each piece of luggage you have. The yellow taxis which you can telephone for are also efficient, however you will need a language card to direct the drivers as only a few of them speak any sort of English. If you like to drive yourself all the international car rental companies have operations in Macau. Traffic is not generally congested, however parking in the City is scarce.
