How to get to and from the City and Airport
The Hellinikon Airport is 10 miles, or 16 kilometres, south of downtown Athens . Some of the hotels run shuttles to and from their properties and the Airport. Taxis are freely available and a typical fare is around 2,000 DR. Buses also provide frequent services to and from the City.
How to get around in Athens
The Metro, a subway service, operates throughout the City and is one of the quickest, and most efficient, ways of getting around. Taxis are plentiful and navigate the busy Athens streets with some precision. The drivers are skilful and generally quite obliging. Driving yourself requires some courage, and patience, as the traffic gets very congested, so much so that use of the roads is often rationed between cars with numbers ending in odd and even numbers.
